The Blue Riband is an unofficial accolade given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the record highest speed. The holder of the Blue Riband is SS United States. A similar actual trophy exists with somewhat less strict rules (no regular service, no passengers on board, only eastbound crossing needed, etc), introduced in 1935 by a British shipping magnate and politician. The trophy, currently held by the high-speed catamaran Fjord Cat, is named after this magnate. What is the name of the trophy?

I am inventing this name for two days. I have a feeling that it sounds like van Halen. But alas, this is only a rock band.

Traditionally, one mispelled letter per answer is allowed. The man's name is Harold Hales, so Henry XI gets two points and a right to ask the next question

About this person has been written recently:
In the beginning - sluggish, at the end - real slugger.
Who is the person?
