Regarding structure: each category is approximately equally set, the first ten or so questions will be fairly easy, the top quizzers will race through those in under a minute without many errors, if any. This is to ensure the quiz is accessible also for beginners and to hold off despair for a little longer. The middle twenty questions in each category will be more of a challenge. The contestants will find some low hanging fruits there too, but will have to spend more time to get it all right, and probably miss some of the most difficult ones. The last ten questions in each category, varies from difficult to very, very difficult. However, they are not meant to be entirely impossible, and some players might even guess a few correctly. The contestants should be warned in advance not to spend too much of their allotted time for these question, but rather look at them towards the end, time permitting.
Regarding difficulty: measuring difficulty is not an exact science until AFTER the questions have been answered, making it difficult to judge it correctly. Also, there are regional and cultural differences, meaning that a question that may seem trivial in the USA, is next to impossible for quizzers in Estonia, and vice versa. Therefore and without a doubt, some questions found in the most difficult sections may seem out of place. To this likelihood, the contestants should also be warned. In general though, the TENDENCY will be that the overall structure easy-more difficult-very difficult will be valid for the most part.
Regarding score: In the Norway Open International competition, every question in every category counts. That is to say, score will be out of 240 possible points. However, regional competitions may decide to score the quiz two ways: the "official" as described, or a local, where you may choose to disregard the weakest category score or whatever is your custom.
Regarding time: The quiz should be taken under TEST CONDITIONS. Either in one sitting, or in two halves, with a short break of 10-15 minutes inbetween. If you decide to take the quiz without a break, 90 minutes is the allotted time. If you take it in two halves, 50 minutes per half is the allotted time per half (120 questions). If you find that our written English leaves a bit to be desired, or if the quiz is not in your mother tongue, you may choose on the spot to extend the time to 55 minutes per half. As English is not our native language, we apologise in advance for any inconveniences in that regard, and can assure you that lack of clarity was not at all intentional. If you do not take the quiz under test conditions, you should inform us of this fact.
